This can be achieved by earning a diploma or certification such as the basic and advanced certificates at the New York School of Dog Grooming. A pet grooming diploma is offered by the Thompson School of Applied Science at the University of New Hampshire.
3 Write a business plan. After carefully considering what the mobile pet grooming business will entail, write a business plan. Make detailed notes about how much money is available initially, what fees will be charged to pet owners, and what the supplies will cost. As this will be a mobile business, it is necessary to include the costs of transportation, gas and general upkeep of the vehicle. In some instances, pet groomers might have to purchase a more suitable vehicle if pet transport is necessary.
4 Become licensed. Getting business licenses in your city and state is essential. The state will require a business license, and in some cases you might be required to have business insurance. North Dakota, for example, requires business insurance. There are also zoning applications that might be necessary if the pet needs to be picked up and taken back to your home for grooming. This will also be a good time to retain a business lawyer or a business accountant, just in case help is needed later.
